MJM Yachts was founded in 2002 by Bob Johnstone, who, in 1977 co-founded J/ Boats, Inc., the world’s leading brand of performance sailboats.
MJM was created to deliver a more practical, fun, and easier-to-own yacht—one that could be comfortably operated by a couple, cruise at speed offshore, and entertain in any weather. The name MJM stands for Mary Johnstone’s Motorboat, a nod to the original vision that launched the brand.
MJM blends timeless design with modern innovation and luxury. Influences include the powder-horn sheer of WWII patrol boats, the bow flare of Carolina sportfishers, the tumblehome of vintage runabouts, and the open pilothouse of Maine lobster boats. Built in North Carolina, every MJM delivers head-turning style, advanced performance, and refined comfort—crafted for those who expect elegance and ease without compromise.
Late in 2023, the business and assets of MJM were acquired by Saothair Capital Partners, a private equity firm specializing exclusively in middle-market manufacturing and industrial companies, through its newly formed affiliate, Seolta Holdings. Since the acquisition, Saothair Capital Partners has invested heavily in improving production efficiency, quality, and brand perception.
MJM has become the leader for all-weather/all-conditions capably day and cruising performance yachts. Now built utilizing the vacuum infused, post-cured, Epoxy composite process resulting in a stronger, lighter, faster, more efficient yacht. This process, combined with the advanced hull geometry delivers an impressive and class leader ride stability and smoothness.
